The Bart Alsbrook "BootBoy" Libel
This crudely assembled and executed compliment to The Nizkor Project,
created by a Skinhead calling himself "Bootboy," appeared in
1995 at a web site in Texas:
On two occasions,
November 20, 1995, and
January 8, 1996, Mr. McVay sent email to the administrator of
Bootboy's system, noting that his system contained libelous
material. No response was received from either note, in spite
of the clear warning that legal advice had been obtained, and
that legal action was being considered.
(We find it interesting to note, therefore, that the
Vice President of Internet America, Tim Martin, was recently
quoted in the Dallas Morning News as saying that
Internet America was "unaware" of the site.)
On November 8, when Mr. McVay advised the administrators at
IADFW.NET of his intent to bring suit, Bootboy's libel was
still available to the public. Although Mr. McVay has never
received a reply to his letters, we have noted that the text
in question, indeed the entire page, are no longer available.
On January 14, the URL was changed, the offending libel was
removed, and replaced with a crude insult, one which displays
the author's lack of education and imagination:
It seems clear to us that Internet America was fully aware
of the site, and its libelous nature, and that Mr. Martin was
not being truthful with Dallas reporters.
We recommend a course in remedial spelling for
Bootboy, who continued in this crude vein with a threat, recently
posted to the mailing list Stormfront. This threat,
and other background material, has been forwarded to the RCMP,
our Texas attorneys, and to appropriate police authorities there
for future reference; Texas police are believed to be taking
an active interest in this website.
The owner of the Bootboy web site was
Bart Alsbrook, a Confederate Hammerskin with a criminal record in the United States.
Mr. Alsbrook, fresh from a taxpayer-supported vacation in a
Texas jail, returned to the Internet in August, 1996 (as
alsbrook@flash.net).
