On 31 October, Dr Mahmoud Ajjawi, the secretary of the Australian Palestinian Cultural League, was the guest speaker at the Australian League of Rights' Sydney Conservative Speakers Club at the Estonian Club in Surry Hills. Accompanying Mr Ajjawi was Mr Abdul Abbas, the head of the Council of Australian Palestinian Organisations. In his speech, Dr Ajjawi contended that the Jews own 25% of the banks in the USA and thereby seek to exert control over the US Government and other governments worldwide. He also suggested that The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (the notorious Czarist forgery depicting a plot by Jewry to take over the world), could be based on truth. Available at the forum were copies of a transcript of an address given by Adelaide-based League of Rights supporter and Holocaust-denier Jack King at a Palestinian protest outside the US Embassy in Martin Place, Sydney, on 15 October. Also reproduced on the website of the Holocaust-denying Adelaide Institute, the speech decries the "hatred and brutality of those Talmudic, Zionist Jews" and claims that "the United States is controlled by Zionist Jews and their stooges, who run America and the White House". Jews are also allegedly "imbued with a very deep hatred of Christianity" and a "key objective" of Judaism is "to destroy Christianity as well as to gain world control". The "Zionist Jews" are also "invading and taking over Australia" and "are behind the divisive, non-assimilating, extreme multicultural policies and the present friction betreen Aborigines and other Australians". The media is supposedly "dominated by Zionist Jews... It is responsible for promoting the Holocaust lie... and the undermining of our morality, sovereignty, culture and independence". King calls on the Palestinians and all Australians to "get the right people in Parliament before it is too late". For several years there has been contact between militant Arab and Islamic leaders in North America and Europe and organised racist groups. The recent cooperation between the Australian League of Rights and Palestinian leaders is one of the clearest signs of this development in Australia. The League of Rights appears willing to compromise its long-held anti-Muslim and anti-Arab ideology, in order to work with the Palestinian leadership in advancing antisemitism. *** DISSENSION IN GRAEME CAMPBELL'S AUSTRALIA FIRST The far-right Australia First Party appears to be suffering from the same type of infighting that has undermined Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party. Australia First was established by former Federal MP Graeme Campbell in 1996 after he lost Australian Labor Party endorsement because of his links to racist groups. Campbell has declared that he cannot be blamed for the current infighting amongst the Australia First leadership which has divided the Party and fractured its organisational structure, particularly in Victoria. In recent months, Patricia Brook, the Victorian state secretary, has disseminated an "unauthorised" newsletter which specifies what she perceives to be the political, organisational and financial problems within the Party. An open letter has also been issued by Queensland state president and national councillor Terry Gordon, which suggests a radical overhaul of the Party's political structure. He has called for Australia First to become a support organisation for independents, as then "our opponents (who) wish to discredit our candidates would have to attack each one individually. Whereas if the candidates stood under the Party banner, our opponents need only attack the party leader or the party to destroy our chances of success". Gordon believes that this is "another lesson we should have learned from the One Nation experience". *** THE LaROUCHE CULT IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA A well-established racist group has targeted the Western Australian trade union movement as part of its political aspirations in the lead up to the WA State election. The Citizens Electoral Council (CEC), the Australian arm of the US-based fascist Lyndon LaRouche cult, has joined forces with the Municipal Employees Union of WA, a maverick union of blue-collar workers, to form the "Curtin Labor Alliance" political party. The Alliance has nominated candidates to stand at the upcoming State election on a seemingly legitimate Party platform of labour and economic issues. At the launch of the Alliance in Perth earlier this year, the guest speakers were Jeffrey and Michele Steinberg from the US, who are senior aides to movement leader Lyndon LaRouche. Jeffrey is also the director of counterintelligence for LaRouche's American operation. The LaRouche cult believes that the world is on the verge of a great financial crisis, engineered by the "Oligarchy", an alleged cabal of Jewish bankers and usurers, who supposedly use London as their base to subdue the world. The CEC therefore hates all things British - London, Great Britain and the monarchy are euphemisms for the Oligarchy and the Queen is supposedly the head of an international drug cartel. Apart from vilifying Jews, the CEC is an antagonist of multiculturalism, depicts Aboriginal land rights as a "fraud concocted by Prince Philip to splinter Australia", and describes Aboriginal culture as "brutal" and comparable to the "ritual torture and cannibalism of the Aztecs". While the group's ideology appears bizarre, it is nonetheless clearly racist. The CEC's overtures towards Western Australian trade unions are based on the notion that the industrial capitalists (i.e. labour leaders) need to become the junior partners in the LaRouchian "Grand Design for Humanity", the cult's vision for saving civilisation from the Oligarchy. The CEC promotes itself as a legitimate grassroots organisation and it is likely that most members of the Municipal Employees Union, with whom the CEC has formed the Alliance, have little idea of the CEC's racist conspiratorial underpinnings. Mainstream trade unions should be wary of any overtures by the CEC, whose deceptive labour-orientated agenda is a cover for an avowedly racist ideology.
