                          ILLINOIS

A Lombard-based organization called the Illinois
Minutemen describes itself as a militia and has echoed the
anti-government themes of militia groups elsewhere. The
group, formed in mid-January by Glen Ellyn resident Mike
Bafundo, now claims members from Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane
and McHenry Counties. It meets twice a month at a Lombard
bowling alley. Members do not wear uniforms or carry
weapons, but they are reportedly considering a paramilitary
training session with the Michigan Militia.

Another organization, the Southern Illinois Patriots
League, held a rally on April 22 in Carbondale to protest
the presentation by Governor James Edgar of the state's
highest honor, the Order of Lincoln, to gun control advocate
James Brady. Signs at the rally, which drew 150
participants, assailed some of the militia movement's
favorite demons: one described James Brady and his wife
Sarah as tdiabolical misfits," another equated agents of the
U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms with Nazi
stormtroopers. Protestors were also invited to wipe their
feet on a United Nations flag. Organizers of the rally
included Glad Hall, Scott Slinkard and Ken Potter.
