From http://www.valleynet.com/~brsmith/feedback/fb219on.html (downloaded May 11, 1996): Subj: Bradley Smith Date: Thu, Apr 18, 1996 1:08 AM EDT From: intrxxxx@ifu.net (KR) To: CODOHmail@aol.com Was Bradley Smith on the Donahue show? Also how do I subscribe to the Historical Review? Does it discuss other parts of history besides WWII? Thank You Subj: Re: Bradley Smith Date: Thu, Apr 18, 1996 1:00 PM EDT From: intrxxxx@ifu.net To: CODOHmail@aol.com >Yes, Bradley did appear on Donahue. Can I also ask who is this Nizkor? I have been browsing the web, and he seems like he is a champion of undenying the holocaust. Who is this proud obnoxious person who thinks he knows-it-all? Has he been proven wrong and doesnt brag about that? Anyway, I am sort of a revisionist myself. One of my favorite Historians is Hillaire Belloc, who gave me a different look on how the Roman Empire fell.(there was no barbarian invasion). Anyway thanks for the prompt response in your letter. Thanks again. CODOH replies: Nizkor is put together by idealistic people who feel they are doing a good thing, and just coincidentally getting praised often in the press by reporters who nothing about the subject involved. That the safe haven of majority opinion also gives license to indulge in rhetoric that is the equivalent of mob exhortation adds excitement to the endeavor. There is a bit of sadism in the dark recesses of every human mind which craves to be allowed to come out and unleash buried fear and hatred on another human being, but is seldom seen coming from "decent people" except in a sanctioned forum which renders the harsh summary judgments not only acceptable but, in a sense, required. The "knows-it-all" attitude is necessary to maintaining that sanctimony, and also to gloss over the defense of what on closer inspection turns out to be indefensible. Their effort smacks more than a little of a child's coming on stage to sing at a charity benefit for children. No matter how horribly the little tike screeches, a heady round of applause is guaranteed. They thus gain all the good things which come of a successful stage performance without risk, and, for that matter, often without performance.
