The following was on the internet on April 13, 1994.  Any 
misspellings are probably mine.

   MIAMI (Reuters) - About 200 students at the University of
   Miami rallied Tuesday to protest the campus newspaper's publication
   of an advertisement questioning whether Jews really died in the gas
   chambers during the holocaust.

   One student threatened to withdraw from the university and a
   donor said he would withhold $2 million contribution because of the
   ad.

   Tuesday editions of the student newspaper, The Hurricane, included
   an ad placed by California revisionist historian and writer Bradley
   Smith.

   The ad, entitled " A revisionist Challenge to the U.S.  Holocaust
   Memorial Museum," does not say the holocaust never occurred but
   says instead the U.S.  Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington
   offers no convincing evidence that it did.

   The ad has run in about 25 student newspapers nationwide, and an
   equal number have rejected it.

   The newspaper donated the $288 advertising fee to the Holocaust
   Memorial, and also ran an ad publicizing a student meeting to
   discuss the holocaust.

   The peacefull lunchtime protest, led by campus Jewish groups,
   involved about 200 students, campus police said.  As part of the
   protest, many students returned copies of the paper to the
   newspaper office.

   "I can understand the hurt and the anger," said Lynette Malinger,
   the editor of the student paper.  "But I think they should direct
   it to the person whoso ideas need to be changed."

   University President Edward Foote II said he would not have chosen
   to run the ad if he was editor, but said the need to discuss "the
   unspeakable tragedy of the Holocaust" should be weighed against the
   search for truth in a free society.

   "At a university of all places, we should err, if at all, on the
   side of freedom of thought," Foote said.

What search for truth is being discussed here?  The holocaust is a
historical fact so what search remains?  It is also not the purpose of
the Washington museum to prove the holocaust happened, it is a
memorial.  

The ad in question supposedly ran in one of the campus papers here.  I
did not see it but it did not receive this kind of publicity.  I don't
know if that's neccessarily good......
