Ho"ss's memoirs were written betwen October 1946 and April 1947 while
imprisoned and during his trial. Jan Sehn asked Ho"ss, who was quite
cooperative, to write about some of the people who served at Auschwitz,
the decisions they made, the camp regulations, and some of the documents
destroyed before Auschwitz's liberation. Ho"ss voluntarily did so. (These
documents, his "memoirs", _were_ used in Ho"ss's trial- which Ho"ss
full-well knew they would be and to which he knew the consequences of them
being so used.) After Ho"ss finished these anecdotal sections he remarked
that to Sehn that there was little to do in his prison cell. Sehn that
suggested he write about himself. Ho"ss did so. The result is what is
today known as the autobiography of Rudolf Ho"ss. Thus Ho"ss's memoirs are
in fact a collection of documents about Auschwitz, various people,
documents, etc. _and_ his autobiography. (_Death Dealer_, pp.19-20; _KL
Auschwitz Seen by the SS_, pp.16-17.)

Ho"ss was extradited to Poland to stand trial in accordance with the
Allied agreement on the extradition of war criminals as specified by the
Moscow Decleration and the Potsdam Agreement. As Ho"ss's crimes were tied
to a specific geographic area (Poland) he was not tried at Nurenburg, but
in Poland where his crimes were committed.
