I had to see for myself just how much of this stuff that "Ralph" has
been posting has *any* bearing on the truth. I suppose I should have
known better...

ralphw@b-cpu.UUCP (Ralph Winston) writes:

> For half a century it has been asserted that during World War II
>the German State had a policy to "exterminate" the Jews and other
>peoples of Europe in execution gas chambers. This allegation was
>institutionalized at the great Nuremberg trial, led by the Soviets and
>the U.S. While the proceedings at Nuremberg were politically correct,
>the evidence supports the then Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court,
>Harlan Fiske Stone, who called the Nuremberg court simply "a lynching
>party for Germans."

Perhaps a few words from the Furher himself would settle this question?

"[In the event of war] the result will not be the bolshevisation
of the earth, and thus the victory for Jewry, but the annihilation
of the Jewish race in Europe."

From "The Speeches of Adolph Hitler, April 1922 - August 1939,"
Norman H. Baynes (editor), London, 1942, volume 1, page 741, text
taken from the authorized English translation published in pamphlet
form, Berlin, in February 1939. Quoted in "Auschwitz and the
Allies," by Martin Gilbert, Holt Rinehart and Winston, New York,
  1981, page 13.

Or perhaps:

"...and we say that the war will not end as the Jews imagine it
will, namely with the uprooting of the Aryans, but the result of
this war will be the complete annihilation of the Jews.

"Now for the first time they will not bleed other people to death,
but for the first time the old Jewish law of An eye for an eye, a
tooth for a tooth, will be applied.

"And the further this war spreads, the further will spread this
fight against the world of the [Jew], and they will be used as food
for every prison camp, and [ ] in every family, which will have it
explained to it why [ ], and the hour will come when the enemy of
all times, or at least of the last thousand years, will have played
  his part to the end."

Adolph Hitler speaking to a crowd at the Sports Palace in Berlin,
30 January 1942. Quoted in "Auschwitz and the Allies," page 20 and
footnoted as being from "Voices of History 1942-43," Franklin Watts
(editor), New York, 1943. Text as monitored by the Foreign
Broadcast Monitoring Service, Federal Communications Commission.
Gaps in the monitored text are shown with square brackets.

And later he says:

> There was no German policy at any of those camps to deliberately
>kill the internees. In the last months of the war Soviet armies were
>advancing on Germany from the east. The British and U.S. air arms were
>destroying every major city in Germany with saturation bombing.
>Transportation, the food distribution system and medical and sanitation
>services all broke down. That was the purpose of the Allied bombing,
>which has been described as the most barbarous form of warfare in
>Europe since the Mongol invasions. It was successful.

The policy was not a German policy it was a Nazi policy. Let me quote
Heinrich Himmler speaking on October 6, 1943 to a meeting of
Gauleiters and Reichsleiters in Poznam. The quote was recorded by
Erich Goldhagen

"I must ask you only to listen to what I tell you in this group
and never to speak about it. We were asked: What about the women
and children? I made up my mind to find a clear solution here too.
You see, I did not feel I had a right to exterminate the men -- i.e.
kill them or have them killed -- while allowing the children to grow
up and take revenge upon our sons and grandsons. We had to reach
the difficult decision of makeing this nation vanish from the face
  of the earth."

This quote is from "Albert Speer: The End of a Myth" by Matthias
Schmidt page 196 (English version St. Martins' Press, New York, 1984).
