Hoess' successor was SS-Obersturmbannfuehrer Arthur Liebehenschel (DPOB:
November 25, 1901, Poznan), who served as commandant of the Auschwitz
complex between November 1943 and mid-1944. SS-Sturmbannfuehrer Richard
Baer (September 9, 1911, Floss) replaced Liebehenschel in 1944 and was
commandant at the time of the evacuation in January 1945.
