[hlist] In response to the earlier request -- the following comes from _The Case for David Irving_, by Nigel Jackson (a book which lauds and defends Irving, so the info on Irving is probably correct), p. 144: "David John Cawdell Irving was born in Essex, England, on March 24, 1938, the so of an illustrator and a naval officer. His father, Commander John Irving, RN, was an author and Arctic explorer who served in the Battle of Jutland (1916) and the North Russian convoys in World War II. David Irving collaborated with his father on his last book, _The Smokescreen of Jutland_. "After an Arts education at four hundred year-old Sir Anthony Browne's School in Brentwood, Essex, Irving won an ICI scholarship to read physics at London University. In 1959 he joined the August Thyssen steelworks in the Ruhr, the industrial heartland of Germany, to perfect his knowledge of German, and then worked as a clerk-stenographer with the US Strategic Air Command at an airbase near Madrid, before returning to London to read political economy. {snip} "David Irving married a Spanish girl, Pilar, in the Sixties and they had four daughters. He is now divorced. On December 5, 1993, his present partner, Ms. Bente Hogh, presented him with his fifth daughter."
