A man claiming to be with the "Jewish Armed Resistance Movement" contacted The Sun yesterday to say his group was responsible for the attack which caused extensive damage to Zundel's fortified Carlton St. home and left three tenants from the adjoining building homeless. The man said his group was based in New York and dedicated to armed opposition to "Nazi tyranny." A number left by the caller went unanswered yesterday, but a check revealed it to be listed to yet another offshoot of the Jewish Defence League, Kahane Chai, an ultra-right Zionist group. Meir Halevi, Toronto leader for the League, denied any involvement in the blaze. HOMELESS Meanwhile, the three tenants, burned out of their apartment next door to Zundel's house, returned to the scene to survey the damage. The men were angry at anti-racists who cheered as the fire. "There were people applauding out here on the street and my friends could have died," Todd Klinck, 20, said yesterday. "Zundel says he's staying and we're the ones who are leaving - whoever did this just wasn't thinking," Klinck, who was at work at the time of the fire, said. Justin Hope fled the thick smoke wearing nothing but a throw pillow he grabbed on his way out. "I was naked but when my girlfriend opened the bedroom door and all that smoke came pouring in, I was outta there."
