Photo Exhibition Launch, Melbourne Town Hall, Australia, Monday 15th
December, from 6.00pm:

"STOP OPERATION ANNIHILATION"

An exhibition of extermination camp photos of the Jewish Holocaust, in
juxtoposition with those of East Timor's contemporary holocaust.

Patron and keynote speaker is Justice Marcus Einfeld,  whilst another
guest is Jewish-Australian commando in East Timor 1942 Harry Levy.

There will be entertainment by KLEZMANIA and KADALAK.

Exhibition is organised primarily by Jim Aubrey and Humanity First,
Australians for a Free East Timor (Vic),  and Descendants of the Shoah
Inc Melbourne.

After Melbourne 15-17th, the exhibition will travel to Jerusalem 29-31,
Lisbon 4th January,  Dublin 5-7th,  London 8-14th,  Toronto 16-17th,
New York 19-24th,  L.A. 26-31st,  and Sydney February 4-7th.

This is a wonderful organising effort by the many people involved,
bringing together perhaps the 2 greatest genocides of this century.

Ironically this week AFFET Darwin has had its photos seized of the 1997
rapes and other tortures and killings of East Timorese by Indonesian
military.  This stupid act of attempted censorship by the NT Police,
who we know are under political pressure to harass Timor support
activists, illustrates the forces at work even today to prevent people
seeing the evidence of total brutality by the occupying forces of our
immediate neighbour East Timor, (which lost 60,000 citizens in WW2, or
10% of its population, as a result of helping Australia then).

However attempted state censorship usually backfires.  It is harder to
deal with the censorship of the mainstream media in Australia,  which
mostly so far has not only not shown the photos even slightly fudged if
necessary, but have made heavy use of "alleged" torture photos, whilst
highlighting the Indonesian claims they were fabricated, and without
using the word "alleged".

This is particularly annoying because they must know this was said
before the Indons had even seen them;   now the Indons in Timor are
trying to counter these obscenities by throwing out dead tortured
prisoners and claiming these deeds were done by the Resistance,  even
though this characterises Indon behaviour and is totally unlike the
Resistance behaviour;   and the Oz media has done nothing at all as far
as I am aware to try to authenticate or discredit the photos.

We have provided the first set, of men torture pics, and the second set,
of women torture pics, to the Australian government, and have not had
in return even a suggestion that these were fabricated.   We know they
are not anyway, I think everyone does.

One can imagine the problems in a totalitarian environment in the 1930s
and 1940s of trying to convince people of the terrors of the Nazis on
Jews!   Some still claim to not believe, and we have neo-Nazi tendencies
being dispayed in Government in Australia at present.

PS  Do we know, are there photos perhaps, if Mrs Tien Suharto died of a
bullet wound fired by one son at another?
