"Heimatpflege-Verein" ST.GEORGEN/GUSEN (AHDG-HPV)
The Arbeitskreis fuer Heimat-, Denkmal- und Geschichtspflege
"Heimatpflege-Verein" (AHDG) is a registered local
association mainly sponsored by the municipality and the
people of the small rural comunity of Sankt Georgen an der Gusen, Austria.
The prime aim of this association is dedicated to the research,
preservation and promotion of the local heritage of the people
in this region since the early stone age up to now in general.
One second aim is dedicated to the former KZ Gusen I, II & III
concentration camps that (like the Mauthausen central camp) were situated
in this region.
Furthermore, AHDG-"Heimatpflegeverein" St. Georgen/Gusen can be best described
by the following activities:
- Active and Passive Memberships
- General historical research endeavors
- St. Georgen Local Heritage Museum (Heimat-Haus)
- St. Georgen Local Heritage Magazine (Heimat-Blaetter)
- Maintenance of KZ Mauthausen-GUSEN Info-Pages for Platform work
- International Coordination of Platform work

Active and Passive Memberships
Everybody is welcome to contribute to the endevours of AHDG
by active conribution in the form of working actively in research, preservation, publication, etc. (active membership)
or by supporting these activities by annual membership-dues of ATS 50,--
and the donation of money or relevant (historical) materials.
Membership dues and donations may be paid to one of the following wire-transfer accounts:
- Account-No. 1000-009570 at "Die Erste Sparcasse Mauthausen-Grein" (BLZ 20323)
- Account-No. 15.008 at " Raiffaisen-Bank St.Georgen/Gusen" (BLZ 34524)
Active and passive members receive the St. Georgen Local Heritage Magazine (Heimatblaetter)
free of charge (3 times a year).
General Research Endeavors
AHDG-HPV members work in the following research-fields:
- General history of the "Muehlviertel-Region" in Upper-Austria
- History and Development of the communities of St. Georgen/Gusen and Langenstein
- History of the KZ Mauthausen-GUSEN I, II & III concentration camps
- Local traditions
- History of local handicrafts and keeping up their traditions
St. Georgen Local Heritage Museum (Heimat-Haus)
The St. Georgen Local Heritage Museum (Heimat-Haus) was opened in 1987.
Its show rooms are dedicated to:
- Local history, early life and early cultures (stone-age, bronze-age, etc.)
- The development of the communities of St. Georgen/Gusen and Langenstein
- Local traditions and handicrafts. Especially weaving in the 18th century and pottery)
- Remnants of the former KZ Gusen I, II & III concentration camps
- Library/Archive containing historical documents, publications, etc.
St. Georgen Local Heritage Magazine (Heimat-Blaetter)
Since 1986 the St. Georgen Local Heritage Magazines have appeared 3 times a year and
presented documentations, reports and facsimiles of historical documents
to the local population, members, archives and other interested individuals.
Distribution to members of AHDG-HPV is free.
Maintenance of
KZ Mauthausen-GUSEN Info-Pages
Since May 1997, AHDG-HPV on behalf of its membership in
"Plattform 75 JAHRE REPUBLIK - Mit Toleranz und Demokratie
ins Jahr 2000" together with the Upper-Austrian Division
of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) has maintained
the KZ Mauthausen-GUSEN Info-Pages on the world wide web.
International Coordination of
"Plattform 75 JAHRE REPUBLIK -
Mit Toleranz und Demokratie ins Jahr 2000"
AHDG-HPV is a founding member of this local-international platform that is dedicated
to commemorational activities for the former KZ Mauthausen-GUSEN I, II & III concentration camps and to general activities
in order to promote political values like tolerance and democracy in the local population.
