"Central Complex" , March 15, 1945, 03:00 p.m., 29,000 feet

KZ Gusen II on the left part of photograph (No.19); KZ Gusen I on right part (No.13)

KZ Gusen I & II were the biggest satellites of the Mauthausen system of camps.
After 1944, with some 25,000 inmates, these Gusen camps
contained double the number of inmates than the Mauthausen central camp.

The 16,000 inmates at KZ Gusen II (left part of the photograph) worked
in the St.Georgen "BERGKRISTALL" underground installations some 3 km west of these camps.
The inmates of KZ Gusen I worked in the stone-quarries, barracks and tunnels north of the 2 camps.
