KZ Gusen I, II & III Commemoration

KZ Gusen Memorial transferred
to Republic of Austria
At the presence of some 2000 people from all over Europe
the KZ Gusen Memorial was transferred by Pierre Serge Choumoff
on behalf of the relatives of the many thousand KZ Gusen-victims,
the survivors and their families to the representative of the
Republic of Austria, Sektionschef Dr. Wolf Szymanski (Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior, Vienna).
Official commemorative addresses were given by:
- the Vice-Consul of the Russian Federative Republic, Mr. Alexandre Kouzmine
- the President of Comitee International du Souvenier du Camp de Gusen at Amicale Francaise de Mauthausen, Mr. Pierre Serge Choumoff
- the Representative of the Klub Mauthausen-Gusen (Warszawa), Mr. Stanislaw Koprowski
- the Representative of the Slovenian Mauthausen Society, Mr. Svetko Kobal (who wrote the first book about Mauthausen Central Camp in 1944!!!)
- the Mayor of Empoli (Firenze, Italy), Sindaco Vittorio Bugli (the new Partner-City of St.Georgen/Gusen)
- the Chief of the City-Council of Sesto San Giovanni (Milano, Italy), Signor Giancarlo Castelli
- the Representative of the Republic of Austria, Sektionschef Dr. Wolf Szymanski (Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior)
- the Representative of the Province of Upper Austria, Landesrat Josef Ackerl
- the Mayor of St.Georgen/Gusen, Buergermeister Rudolf Honeder (where the KL Gusen II Tunnels are)
- the Mayor of Langenstein, Vizebürgermeister Ernst Hutsteiner (were the KL Gusen I & II Camps have been)
Furthermore;
- a commemoration plate made up of Granite stone from the Gusen stone-quarry
was given by the community of Langenstein to Mr. Stanislaw Koprowski of
Klub Mauthausen-Gusen, Warszawa. It shall remember the 27.000 Polish victims
of the KZ Gusen camps in the cathedral of the old-town of Warsazawa later on.
Along with this local-international commemoration
the local population also organized;
- a presentation of concepts for a future KZ Gusen Commemoration Path
by students of the Austrian Academy of Applied Arts Vienna (Townhall of St.Georgen/Gusen)
- an official welcome to the delegations from Empoli and Sesto San Giovanni (Landesmusikschule St.Georgen/Gusen)
- a round-table discussion of KZ Gusen I & II survivors with interested people and
eye-wittnesses of the local population (Langenstein Parish Center)
- a round-table discussion with Mr. Max Garcia (Landesmusikschule St.Georgen/Gusen)
- a workshop with Bernard Offen, Herwig Strobl and the local population
concerning Jewish culture, music and the Holocaust
